Living with Arthritis

It may sound funny, but it begins with you and whether your bucket list is true and believable. Do you really want what's on your bucket list OR are you just wishing it could happen? Believe me, there is a huge difference between a bucket list and a wish list.
Self-purpose starts with faith or belief that you have more to do! In spite of your diagnosis, others' opinions and treatment of your disease – or even how you view yourself or are treating yourself.

Every Action has a Purpose

Action is always fortified or energized by the meaning. Purpose leans to the definition of said act.
Okay, so you had a joint replaced because of your diagnosis (arthritis)!
Ask yourself:

  • Did you do everything to allow yourself (body and mind) to heal, strengthen, and enrich itself. Did you do everything to prep your body for the operation and the best possible result coming out
  • And now you have finally been labelled an Arthroid whether from family or friends or the medical community
  • How do you feel? Like me? At first I felt wasted, useless, slowing down, not as good as others and not as good as I used to be.

Please remember 3 things at this juncture.

  • There are so many more muscles in the body vs number of joints in the body. And, remember, muscles move the body and protect joints. That is a scientific fact.
  • Pain may be managed, controlled, even reduced and it may be over-inflated within the individual's perception.
    Just ask Dr. Jacqueline Hochman M.D., Rheumatologist & Assistant Professor at Women's College Hospital or Dr. Judith Hunter, Bsc PT, Msc, PHD, Physiotherapist Assistant Professor at U. of T. (Keynote speakers with the Arthritis Society).
  • If your purpose is strong enough, believed in enough…then yes, the body can improve, heal, and care for itself! Given the correct adjustments to your living style, you can end up living a "life well" vs "life retracting".

So, now what's your purpose taken from the moment you just finished reading this and moving forward?
Like me, do you have a ball hockey game you wished to share when you were very young?
Do you have a pony out there just waiting for you to ride? Are there things still wished for but not achieved? Then you're not done!

  • All you need to add is a new way to get you closer to where you know you can be.
  • Is it just as simple as asking?

Since your diagnosis of Arthritis, do you see yourself differently? Here's one that you need to know about --- the Arthritis Foundation has done a study which shows that the physical symptoms of Arthritis can lead to psychological challenges such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Helplessness
